The director of ICARE is Mr Philippe DAGAUT, Director of Research.
CNRS Silver Medal 2016.
The work carried out by this chemist over the past two decades on the formation and reduction of pollutants has had multiple spin-offs in the field of energy management. In 1994, he was the first scientist to propose a detailed model of the combustion kinetics of natural gas and kerosene. His research, aimed at studying in detail the oxidation mechanisms of a very large number of hydrocarbons, combines experimentation and modelling. Widely used on an international scale, his work has also led to industrial applications within major French energy and automotive groups, with which he regularly collaborates. In recent years, Philippe Dagaut has undertaken to develop models for alternative fuels such as biokerosenes or biodiesel. The ERC Advanced Grant on the theme “Combustion of sustainable alternative fuels for engines used in aeronautics and automotives” which he obtained in 2011 welcomes this scientific reorientation. From 2010 to 2016, he was Editor-in-Chief of Combustion and Flame, the leading international journal for combustion research.
